You know, one of the many hard things that I had to learn to do as a new widow was to sit by myself at church. Initially, my two high school age children were there to ease the pain of the empty seat. Then they went off to college and I really felt alone.
When I moved to Jacksonville, one of the main reasons I selected Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra as our new church home was because of the Solo Flight singles ministry. Solo Flight has been a great resource to meet new friends, do fun things that I’d never do on my own and just begin to feel connected.
In the time I’ve been here, we’ve kayaked the Suwannee River, painted a Habitat House, toured the St. Augustine art galleries, toured Ft. George Island on a Segway and lots of other fun and service oriented activities.
What has meant the most to me about Solo Flight has been the fellowship with others. At the spring retreat, I was the one who was felled by a pesky kidney stone. One friend rubbed my back while another waited for the ambulance. One went with me to the hospital and then drove me back to Jacksonville while someone else drove my car. I was surrounded by loving, caring friends.
If you are single, won’t you come join us and connect with a great group of welcoming new friends.
